Actor Sivakarthikeyan’s highly ambitious action film Amaran, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, announced the release date on Wednesday.
Amaran, based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, will release on October 31 on the occasion of Diwali.
Kamal Haasan’s Raj Kamal Films International is bankrolling the film along with Sony Pictures International Productions.
Amaran’s story about a late army officer is inspired by the book India’s Most Fearless by Shiva Arur and Rahul Singh.
In the film, Sivakarthikeyan will be seen in the role of Major Mukund Varadarajan, who served as a commissioned officer in the Rajput Regiment of the Indian Army. He was awarded the Ashok Chakra posthumously for his gallantry during an anti-terrorist operation while on deputation to the 44th Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir.
Bankrolled by Kamal Haasan’s Raj Kamal Films International, the film stars Sai Pallavi in the female lead and is co-produced by Sony Pictures. GV Prakash will team up with Sivakarthikeyan for the first time. Cinematographer CH Sai, editor Kalaivanan and stunt director Stefan Richter are on board for this film.
Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan also has SK23 in the pipeline with director AR Murugadoss. Actress Rukmini Vasanth, who is known for her films Yellow by Sapta Sagarada, will play the female lead.

2011–2013: Shift to television and film:
During college, Sivakarthikeyan participated in various cultural events, performing mimicry and standup comedy on stage. In between his studies, he took a break of three months and during this time, his friends joined the comedy reality TV show Kalakka Povatu who aired on Star Vijay? He was persuaded to go for the auditions. His career was started as a mimicry artist. Despite initial hesitancy to participate, he won the show. He appeared in short films including his friend Atlee’s Mugapputagam, Identity, Kural 786 and 360°. Aegan producers perceived Sivakarthikeyan and offered him a supporting role in the film, but his portions did not make the final cut.
Director Pandiraj approached Sivakarthikeyan to play the lead in his film Marina and he signed the project. He followed Pandiraj’s instructions closely and prepared for the role by extensively visiting Marina Beach and studying the surroundings, while revealing that he hoped his natural comic talent would come to the fore. Sivakarthikeyan’s performance as the young couple opposite Oviya in the film was well received, with one critic stating, “The romance adds color to the monochrome film”, while the reviewer said “Shiva is only needed as Senthilnathan. The actor’s performance is a cake walk.
Prior to the release of Marina, Aishwarya signed on to play Dhanush’s friend Sivakarthikeyan in a supporting role in 3, after being impressed by Dhanush’s work on stage as the host. Following considerable pre-release hype, the film received mainly positive reviews, with critics praising Sivakarthikeyan for providing comic relief in a serious film. During the shooting of this movie, Sivakarthikeyan developed a good relationship with Dhanush, so everyone in the industry says that Dhanush is Sivakarthikeyan’s mentor.
He next appeared in Ezil’s romantic comedy Manam Kothi Paravai, which opened to mixed reviews but did well at the box office. A critic from Behindwoods said that the film “may not have given Sivakarthikeyan the platform he was hoping for – leading roles in films. But it showcases his potential as an actor”.
